How to read a screen repair quote in Florida
Living in Central Florida is great. You can take a bike ride on the Spring-to-Spring Trail or watch the manatees play at Blue Spring State Park in Orange City. But let’s be honest: Florida has two seasons. It is either "pretty nice outside" or "a lizard just stared at you from your lanai like you owe him rent."
When that lizard, a wayward branch, or just old age ruins your screens, you need a repair. I am David, the owner of DeBary Screen Repair by David. Being a 4th-generation, neurodivergent, and 100% disabled veteran-owned company (License #L23000258525), I like things to be clear and honest. I want you to know exactly what you are paying for when you get a quote from us.
What is a service call fee?
Every quote in Volusia County should start with a minimum service call fee. For us, that is $130.
Think of this like the ticket you pay to park at the DeBary SunRail station. It covers the cost of me driving my truck from my home to your house, bringing all my tools, the ladder, and the high-quality screen material. Whether I am fixing one panel or checking your whole enclosure, I still have to pack up and drive to you.
Understanding the panel prices
Screens in Florida have a tough job. They block the sun, the bugs, and the occasional falling palm frond. Sometimes, they rip. When I send you a quote, I break it down by the type of panel. Here is how we keep it simple:
- Pool Cage Wall Panels: These are the vertical screens on the sides of your pool enclosure. They are $65 each.
- Roof Panels: These are the panels on top of your pool cage. They are harder to reach and need more care. Those are $130 each.
- Lanai, Porch, and Window Panels: These are the screens for your patio or your house windows. Those are $75 each.
If you are looking at a quote and it seems high, check if it includes "re-screening." Re-screening means taking off all the old screen and putting on brand new mesh. That is different from just replacing one or two broken panels.
Why do prices vary?
You might wonder why a screen near the St. Johns River costs the same as one near the Deltona Walmart on Howland Blvd. It is all about the labor. My brain works a bit differently because I am neurodivergent—I love the details. I check every spline (that is the rubber cord that holds the screen in the frame) to make sure it is tight.
I take pride in my work. Whether I am working near the DeBary Farmhouse Inn or out toward the Daytona International Speedway, I treat your home like my own. I want your screen to be strong enough to keep out the bugs while you look out at the beautiful Florida trees.
A few things to watch for
When you get a quote, look for these three things:
- Is the company licensed? Always check for a license number. It shows they are a real business.
- Is the price clear? If the quote says "Labor and Materials" as one big lump sum, ask them to break it down. You deserve to know what you are paying for.
- Does it mention the materials? I use high-quality screen that stands up to the Florida sun. Cheap screen rips after one storm.
Why choose a local expert?
I grew up here. I know the humidity in the Sanford Historic District and the breeze off the water near the Betty Steflik Preserve. Being a veteran, I believe in showing up on time and doing a job that lasts. I don’t just fix screens; I make sure your outdoor space is ready for a nice evening with friends.
If you are near DeLand’s Artisan Alley or heading down to New Smyrna Beach for a weekend trip, I want you to come home to a house that is bug-free. I spend my days fixing screens because it helps me stay focused and keeps my hands busy. It is the best job in the world.
